Installing a sub meter is is an important part of achieving energy management efficiency. This article will focus on our MCM400 sub-meter installing to provide detailed guidance for installing a sub meter. You will know the methods of installing a sub meter: single-phase 3-wire, three-phase 3-wire, and three-phase 4-wire.
Single Phase 2 Wire installing a sub meter
Common Voltage for this connection: 90-240V. The connection diagram of MCM400 sub meter is shown in Figure 1.

The main difference is that you need to short Ub and Un outside in 3 phase 3wire wiring.
Steps of installing a sub meter
The following steps are taking an MCM400 sub-meter as an example.
Determine the installation location:
Before any actual installation can be carried out, it is first necessary to determine where the single-phase 3-wire submeter will be installed. Ensure the location is safe, convenient, and able to accurately monitor power consumption.
Connect the MCM400 sub-meter:
Connect the MCM400 energy meter to the power line and load line in Figure 1 or Figure 2. Ensuring the connections are correct is a critical step in ensuring the accuracy of real-time metering.
Configure MCM400 settings:
Configure the device to suit your specific submeter environment using the user-friendly LCD screen and buttons on the MCM400 energy meter. This includes setting up power quality monitoring channels, TOU functions, etc.
Test and tweak:
After completing the connection and configuration, perform system testing and adjustments to ensure that the MCM400 sub-meter can accurately measure power consumption. Finally, confirm the accuracy.
Note: When selecting a sub-metering system, consider integration with the Building Automation System (BAS) for more comprehensive energy management. The scope of a submetering system is the first step toward a facility-wide approach.
